I was motivated to create the Beauty of Breastfeeding Calendar to compete with prominently displayed calendars that are "gifts" of the formula industry to doctors, hospitals, and nurses.  I wondered how we could expect a mother to commit to breastfeeding her baby when we surrounded her with subtle messages that did not support breastfeeding.  Because I know that breastfeeding is the normal way of feeding a baby and that the hazards of infant formula are overwhelming, I wanted to do everything I could to provide a product that was both beautiful and artful to replace the advertising we see every day that contradicts the normalcy of breastfeeding.  At my hospital, I  replaced lanyards and name badge retractors, pens and clipboards that were given to staff nurses by the formula representatives with breastfeeding promotion items.  But I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for to replace the formula calendars.  So I began contacting exclusively breastfeeding mothers that I knew, and their response was absolutely amazing.  After the first photos were taken, I was touched by the beauty of my calendar moms and decided that my project should be shared with others.  Now a multi-cultural work of art, the Beauty of Breastfeeding Calendar is a MUST HAVE for breastfeeding advocates and families.  With continued support from the breastfeeding community in 2005-2006, the 2007 Calendar will be nothing short of amazing!  I have already obtained the photos for the 2007 calendar, and several will be previewed on the 2006 calendar.  I will be including several families in the military who have successfully and exclusively breastfed (one stationed in Germany at the time of her photos), a pregnant mother who is breastfeeding her child, an adoptive mother who has exclusively breastfed without the use of supplements, and more very special photos that will have you in tears.  For all of my supporters, I thank you.  Without these amazing breastfeeding mothers and without the support I have received, this calendar would not be possible.
